Do you remember back in the good old days when we had the water colors and the color by numbers books?!  I do and I liked playing with them.  The only complaints that I ever had was the the water color was never bright enough and so all of the coloring pages were always dull and of course as children, we would use TOO much water and all the colors would run together causing a mess that made our parents SWEAR that they’d never buy us another one!  Ahh, the good old days !

Well, the good old days and coloring by numbers has turned into a much cleaner, non messy, vibrant, and fun way of learning for kids!  I was recently contacted by the “Color it by Numbers” website to do a review of their Color by Numbers computer program for children.  They have 3 different “Color it by Numbers” books for download…Animals, Princesses, and Vehicles.  They each cost $9.99 but if you buy 2 or all 3 of them then you’ll receive a discounted price!  After purchasing, you’ll instantly receive a registration code number to enter and then the program is yours and will be on your computer for your kids to use anytime they’d like!

Here are some of the things that I loved about the program:

• It was very easy to download, it just took a few minutes and then it was added to my desktop so that it could be easily found and used anytime we’d like!  The only thing that I found difficult was that the registration code to enter in order to download is a pretty long number and you’ll have to write it down because the program will not allow you to copy and paste the number.  So you’ll have to write it down and then physically enter it into the program.
• The mousing icon is a paintbrush…too cute!
• Each “Color it by Numbers” book (Animals, Princesses, and Vehicles) all contain several different coloring pages to enjoy. 
• You can create your own color palette, so if your child gets bored with the same colors, they can change it up!
• There are 3 coloring methods for each book.  Color by Numbers, Color to Make it Visible, and then Color in Your Favorite Colors (like I previously mentioned).
• The pages are super cute and fun.  After you finish coloring each page, you can view it as an image without the “color by numbers” still inside the image!
• The program is adapted for all screen resolutions.
• It has fun music that my son and I both loved!
• You can download for either Windows, Linux, or Mac.
• You can choose your language settings!

 

My son and I played with this and colored several pages together.  If your child is just now learning how to play on the computer, then this might be a fun way to entice them to practice their computer skills a little more.  My son has a difficult time working the mouse, but this is the perfect practice for him!  He loves shouting out the numbers, colors, and the different animals that he sees on the program !  We had a blast, and I have to say that once HE was done playing, I found myself coloring for another 15 minutes !
